THIS DAY IN POP CULTURE HISTORY
Submitted by Mary Beth on Thu, 2008-06-05 16:10.Some one once said something like "we need to study our past to understand our future". Let's heed that sage advice, shall we, and take a look back into notable moments from pop culture history for today, June 5, 2008.
-Births: Fall Out baby daddy Pete Wentz turns 29 today and Masshole hottie Mark Wahlberg celebrates his 37th.
-Deaths: 2002, Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone was found dead of a drug overdose in his Hollywood home and in 1999 legendary singer Mel Torme passed away.
-Newsy Item: Today marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Kennedy addressed his supporters at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles after winning the California Democratic primary and was subsequently gunned down by Sirhan Sirhan as he was exiting in the hotel's kitchen. His death comes almost two months to the day after fellow politician and peace-seeker Martin Luther King is assassinated in Memphis. Kennedy is most remembered for his crusade for civil rights, "What we need in the United States is not hatred. What we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but love and wisdom and compassion toward one another."
-Music: 1984, Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time is #1 on the pop charts.
-Scandal!: 2002, R. Kelly is indicted for his infamous sex tape where he is alleged to have sex with a 13-year-girl...six years and one urban operetta later (Trapped in the Closet anyone?) later the trial still continues! Let's take a look at his opus; I present to you Trapped in the Closet: Chapter 1.
